Manpreet badal started his Political career by won the Gidderbaha elections in May 1995 on an Akali Dal ticket and he became the youngest memeber of Punjab Legislative Assembly from Gidderbaha in 1997, 2002 and 2007. He re-elected to the Vidhan Sabha in March 2007, he appointed the Finance Minister of Punjab in Parkash Singh Badal Government. Afterwards, he was removed from this very post. Later he was deported from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in October 2010.
After that he launched Jago Punjab Yatra, a movement in which he travelled all the 117 constituencies of the state, on November 14, 2010. This Yatra come to a head with the launch of People’s Party of Punjab in 2011. In the 2012 Punjab elections,he fight the elections from the Gidderbaha and Maur constituencies, but unfortunately he losing from both seats.
On 15 Jan 2016, Manpreet merged his party with the Congress Party. Next he won the seat from Aam Aadmi party in the Punjab Assembly elections held in March 2017.Now he currently holds the seat of Minister of Finance and Planning in the Punjab government of India. This is his second time he work as a Finance Minister of Punjab.
